Regions in story order
Before the first region, the game opens with the Prologue and two lead-in quests: Diverging Paths and Reckless Pursuit. Mirage Estate sits inside Pangzhen, so its bosses and chapters appear in that row. The last two rows hide chapter and boss names behind a fold.

Sources count the world differently. Eight regions or maps: Gamersky's chapter list (from TheGamer), Gamersky's preview ('eight complete maps') and the Game Rant list. Nine: PowerPyx, which counts Mirage Estate separately even though it sits inside Pangzhen. Five: PCGamesN, which calls five 'main regions', as relayed by GCORES.

How we handle it: The names do not conflict, only the count. We use the eight-region chapter list for the table and treat Mirage Estate as part of Pangzhen. S-GAME has not published a map count.

Layout
It is not a seamless open world. Push Square says each region has its own map in an open-zone layout, and Game Rant describes large regions linked along the story path with smaller realms between them. Whether you can walk back between regions without fast travel is not confirmed.
Fast travel works between Bells you have already visited: interact with a visited Bell, pick another visited Bell on the map and you travel there instantly.
Map markers: the map shows red icons for areas to revisit and side-quest icons (VGC); areas that a Phantom Edge can open turn green on the map (GamesRadar).
In story order: Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Mandate Encampment, Meigu Lake, Mountain of Imprisonment and Mount Soulrend. Mirage Estate is an area inside Pangzhen. Three outlets agree on this order.
No. Reviewers describe separate regions, each with its own map in an open-zone layout, mostly along one main path with optional side areas. It is not a seamless open world.

Possibly. Push Square says some regions are completely missable if you rush the main path, and GamesRadar+ and The Outerhaven agree some content can be missed. Which region that is has not been confirmed.
