This is a launch-day page. Meigu Lake guides are a few hours old and thin in places, so every claim carries its source and single-source claims say so.
Meigu Lake is entered from the northeast corner of Pangzhen, near the Pavilion of Knowledge, but thorny brambles block the path. GameSpot says you burn them with the Flaming Mane Phantom Edge, which you get by finishing Pangzhen's main objectives up to the Lion Dance Grandmaster in the city's northwest corner. PC Gamer agrees that Pangzhen's western boss gives the Phantom Edge that opens the way to the lake from the north of town.
Soulclaimer, an Elite Shadow Warden, is the fight between Pangzhen's rooftops and the docks. GameSpot says to follow the streets and rooftops of the northeast path until you meet him, and that beating him gives full access to the docks and cliffside. PowerPyx reaches him from the Dockside Warehouse Bell: drop into the large courtyard, beat him, go down the stairs to the Pangzhen Docks Bell, then cross the docks or use the boat to enter Meigu Lake. PowerPyx lists his drop as Parting Hooks, a weapon.
You cross to Meigu Lake by boat from the Pangzhen docks. PowerPyx says to continue across the docks or interact with the boat, Game8 says to use the Boatmaster's Sha-Chi Powered Boat, and PowerPyx's lake page tells you to travel by boat from Pangzhen Docks.
Ring Bells as you go; saving and fast travel explains why. PowerPyx's own advice at the docks is not to start the region too early, since you can cross before you are ready.

Is Game8's chapter The Lake the same as Meigu Lake?
Game8's chapter list has a chapter 9 called The Lake with no overview. Game Rant's and TheGamer's lists instead give Meigu Lake the chapter names Sha-Chi Powered Boat, Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, Allure of Vanity and Illusory Pipa. We have not matched The Lake to Meigu Lake.

Main path
Meigu Lake is required for the story, but only one location in it has to be reached; most of the lake is optional and much of it counts toward the True Ending. The required route ends at the Weeping Mistgate, north of a Bell, a barrier that only the Illusory Pipa Phantom Edge can dispel. Beyond it lies the Mountain of Imprisonment. PowerPyx says some Meigu Lake clean-up can be finished after you move on.
Once Myst has repaired it, the Illusory Pipa is a Phantom Edge that dispels certain barriers, and it is the key to the barrier in the north of Meigu Lake. PowerPyx lists the quest among those to finish before Mirage Estate.
Names are in a fold because they are story spoilers. Names of the fights in Steam achievements are official; their area, and every fight listed without an achievement, rest on PowerPyx alone. Which boss closes the region is not stated by any guide we read.

Seven Meigu Lake Memory Flower spots match between PowerPyx and Fextralife.
The fourth Banyan tree is on an island in Meigu Lake. PowerPyx, PC Gamer and Game Informer (which mentions a Human-Faced Banyan while boating) all place it there.
The pipa is the key item of the region. Myst, in the Order's underground tavern in Pangzhen, repairs it once you bring the parts.

The Illusory Pipa Head comes from Dusk, the Puppeteer, a secret boss in the Village of Lu. You reach him through Firefly's Memory Flowers, part of Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, which unlock the barrier at the Temple of Blue Fireflies.
The Illusory Pipa Strings drop from Yan Qiansui, the Zither Maiden. You find her by collecting Yan'er's Memory Flowers around the lake; PC Gamer says two are towards the Pangzhen docks and places her at a sunken opera house in the south, PowerPyx places her at Meigu Songhouse Dock.
