Phantom Blade Zero Banyan's Heart and Banyan Tree trial locations
Each Banyan tree with a human-like face starts a combat trial, and clearing it pays out a Banyan's Heart that some skill-tree nodes ask for. Five trees are placed by two guides each, in story order below. Reported· PC Gamer
We cross-checked PowerPyx's regional collectible pages with PC Gamer's Banyan's Heart guide and Game Informer's tips, then rewrote each spot in our own words. Game Informer calls the trees "Human-Faced Banyan"; PowerPyx calls the spots "Banyan Tree (Challenge Location)". They are the same thing. What it does
A Banyan's Heart is the reward for finishing a combat trial at a Banyan tree. Some skill-tree nodes need one: PC Gamer names Fluid Form Level 2, Quick Remedy and Opening Strike, and Game Informer says it unlocks specific nodes on Soul's tree.
Guides do not agree on the number of Banyan's Hearts. PowerPyx and PC Gamer count five Banyan tree trials, Game Informer's wording implies six Human-Faced Banyan trials, and GameSpot says eight Hearts exist, one per connected node, with some for sale.

How we handle it: These may be counting different things: trial trees (five agreed), possible extra trials, and Hearts bought from Quick Hand Zhang. GameSpot's page blocked our fetcher, so we rely on a search excerpt for its count.
Buy one?
PC Gamer says you can also buy Banyan's Hearts from Quick Hand Zhang for 100,000 at his den in the Village of Lu onwards, and that he seems to get a new Heart for each new den, possibly tied to finishing his treasure hunts. PC Gamer's tips piece also says a few Hearts can be bought.
Taking the first Banyan's Heart starts the collectible quest Heart of the Banyan, which asks you to find four more. PowerPyx says the tale is accepted automatically after meeting the Illusion of Inanis a second time, and that the trials are waves of enemies ending in a rematch with a boss you already beat.
If you die in a trial you do not start over: PowerPyx says you resume from the wave you died on, and PC Gamer says a finished stage stays done and a bell is nearby for retries.
The Steam achievement Even Trees Know Sorrow is awarded for completing Heart of the Banyan, the collectible quest behind these trials. About 9.8% of players had it when we checked.
Each trial is a short run of enemy waves that ends with a rematch against a boss you have already beaten. All five rows below are backed by PowerPyx and PC Gamer. Boss names and routes that only one guide gives are marked in the text.

1. Crimson Forest
Drop down from the Parting Mists Bell and cross to the giant tree on the island ahead. Interact with it to enter the trial.

2. Pangzhen
After the You Loong fight, cross the wooden path from the arena and the tree is directly ahead. PC Gamer places it in Pangzhen's second chapter, near the Lion Dance Hall in the northwest.

3. Mandate Encampment
From the Sunset Path Bell, go up the stairs and grapple onto the cliff on the right. The tree is in the middle of that area. PC Gamer says it is close to the start of the region.

4. Meigu Lake
On an island in the lake. PowerPyx lists it under the Lake Banyan Dock Bell, in the centre of the island.

5. Mountain of Imprisonment
On the main path through the region, after the door that the Shrine Outer Gate Bell opens. PC Gamer says you need the Illusory Pipa to reach this region.

The reward for each is one Banyan's Heart. Game Informer adds that the final boss is tougher than before and has some new moves. Clearing the first one starts the collectible quest Heart of the Banyan, which asks you to find the other four. Reported· PC Gamer
Several regions have a Memory Flower or a bell right beside the tree (PowerPyx lists one next to the Crimson Forest and Mandate Encampment trees), so these are good places to clear the area. See the Memory Flower locations.
Buying a Heart instead
The merchant Quick Hand Zhang may sell Hearts. PC Gamer gives a price of 100,000 at his den from the Village of Lu onwards and thinks he stocks a new one for each new den, possibly tied to finishing his treasure hunts. PowerPyx's trophy guide asks for "all 5" locations for the Heart of the Banyan quest, so five trials is the best-supported count. The six and eight in other guides may include purchased Hearts or extra trials; we have not seen a sixth tree named. Confirmed· Steam Community
