Phantom Blade Zero best weapons and combos for the early game
There is no official ranking and no settled tier list yet. Jagged Steel is the one weapon two outlets back, and Game8 adds picks for each weapon type. Reported· Game8
This page collects what named outlets recommend, with who said it, why and how to get the weapon. We do not rank them ourselves. Game8 labels its own lists "early impressions" that may change, so read every row as a launch-week opinion.
What more than one source agrees on
Only Jagged Steel passes the two-source bar. It is the reward for beating The Frenzied Brute in Weeping Creek Valley, so you can have it in the first region. Its catch is that bleed does not work on every enemy. Reported· Game8

Jagged Steel
Jagged Steel is recommended by both Game8 and PC Gamer. Game8 calls it a great early weapon with the easiest moveset and puts it in its early boss-fight loadout; PC Gamer's guides writer says they were still using it after about 30 hours.
Bleed does not work on Puppets, Golden Bodies or Phantom Bodies. PC Gamer says the Livingwood Talisman (a chest in the Village of Lu near the Smuggler's Tunnel) lets bleed work on them at 50%, or 70% once polished. Game Informer adds that most Village of Lu enemies are puppets, so it points players there to high guard-break weapons instead.
PC Gamer's advice is to carry one one-handed and one two-handed weapon, because each type uses a different upgrade material. The same writer keeps Jagged Steel in the first slot with dual swords in the second.
Game Informer's tip for weapon pairs: when Sha-Chi runs low, switch to your second main weapon, which arrives with a full bar while the first one cools down.
The first row is the two-source pick. The rest each come from one outlet, so treat them as other opinions rather than consensus. "How to get" comes from our weapons and Phantom Edges tables.
Raises damage against bleeding enemies (pairs with Jagged Steel) and pulls ranged enemies into melee range; Game8 suggests upgrading it to Level 5 early.

Wild Oriole Sword is missable per PowerPyx, so grab it on the dock right after the Mu Xiaokui fight before you leave. Scarlet Wraithblade is also the name of a Steam achievement ("Defeat Hua, the Bride"), so the name matches an official Steam entry; see the Scarlet Wraithblade page.
Combinations

Game8: Fiend Saws + Outlaw's Warblade
Game8's recommended pairing is Fiend Saws as the main damage dealer with Outlaw's Warblade as the second weapon for shielded enemies; the Warblade's power surge can also heal, which saves medicine.
Game8's early boss-fight loadout is Jagged Steel plus Scarlet Wraithblade as weapons, Dread Axe and Hunter's Chain Sickle as Phantom Edges, and the Battle Wraps, Token of Pursuit and Reflex Device accessories. Game8 says all of it can be had in Weeping Creek Valley after The Hunt.
There is no agreed single best early weapon. Game8's per-type picks are Fanatic's Broken Blade (one-handed), Outlaw's Warblade (two-handed) and Fiend Saws (dual-wield), and its one-handed page ranks Wild Oriole Sword first for damage. PC Gamer's guides writer argues for Jagged Steel above the rest, and Game8's own boss-fight loadout also uses it.

How we handle it: The sources answer slightly different questions (best pick per type, best damage, best for bosses), so we list each pick with its reason instead of ranking them. Game8 labels its list early impressions that may change.
Shielded enemies are where the picks differ most. See how to break shields for which weapons and Phantom Edges the sources use against them.
Questions
What is the best weapon in Phantom Blade Zero?
No source agrees on one. Jagged Steel is the only weapon that two outlets (Game8 and PC Gamer) both recommend for the early game. Game8 also picks Fanatic's Broken Blade, Outlaw's Warblade and Fiend Saws by weapon type.
Jagged Steel is the safest start: it is an early boss reward in Weeping Creek Valley, two outlets recommend it, and it is easy to learn. Its bleed does not work on puppets, so pair it with a second weapon that has strong guard break.
PC Gamer suggests one one-handed and one two-handed weapon, since each type uses its own upgrade material. Game Informer adds that swapping to your second weapon when Sha-Chi runs low refills the bar.
